I watched ‘Frida’ last night, a film about the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. It was the perfect night to watch it as it was so balmy it suited the mood of the film.

Frida Kahlos painted using vibrant colors in a style that was influenced by indigenous cultures of Mexico as well as by European influences that included Realism, Symbolism and Surrealism. Many of her works are self portraits that symbolically express her own pain and sexuality.

I am not usually into bright colours and vivid imagery in my art but in Kahlo’s work there is a certain softness that counterbalances this. I especially like her the colours and compositions in her self portraits.

The imagery in the film by the way was amazing.
